Why Lawstronaut for Vanuatu legal research
Vanuatu legal information is spread across consolidated laws, the Official Gazette, Parliament, the State Law Office, financial-services and utilities regulators, and the courts. For humans, that means slow research. For AI systems, it's a bigger problem: fragmented source access, inconsistent formats, missing provenance, and weak citation trails.
Lawstronaut turns those sources into one structured legal data layer — source links, metadata, full text, versioning, and API/MCP access. Your product or agent retrieves the legal source directly instead of relying on generic web search or unverified model memory. Every answer carries a citation, a timestamp, and a link to the official document — the provenance that makes a legal research platform defensible to auditors and regulators.
About Vanuatu legal coverage
Vanuatu is a mixed-law jurisdiction shaped by its history as the Anglo-French New Hebrides Condominium: English common law and equity, French-influenced civil law, and customary law (kastom) all operate under the supreme Constitution of the Republic of Vanuatu (1980). Primary legislation is enacted by the unicameral Parliament of Vanuatu, published in the Vanuatu Official Gazette, and consolidated as numbered Chapters (CAP) in the Laws of the Republic of Vanuatu maintained by the State Law Office. The court hierarchy runs from the Magistrates' and Island Courts up through the Supreme Court of Vanuatu to the Court of Appeal. English, French, and Bislama are the official languages, and legislation is published primarily in English and French.
Vanuatu law changes at pace, especially in financial services and governance: the Companies Act No. 25 of 2012 modernised the company-law framework, successive AML/CFT and financial-services reforms have responded to FATF and international-tax scrutiny of Vanuatu as an offshore centre, and the 2022 constitutional amendments on political stability reshaped rules on parliamentary membership — so citations to outdated provisions can simply be wrong. Point-in-time data straight from the source is what keeps a Vanuatu legal research answer correct today.
