WHY LAWSTRONAUT

Why Lawstronaut for Togolese legal research

Togolese legal information is spread across legislation portals, ministries, statutory agencies, regulators, courts, and regional harmonized-law bodies such as OHADA and the WAEMU institutions. For humans, that means slow research. For AI systems, it's a bigger problem: fragmented source access, inconsistent formats, missing provenance, and weak citation trails.

Lawstronaut turns those sources into one structured legal data layer — source links, metadata, full text, versioning, and API/MCP access. Your product or agent retrieves the legal source directly instead of relying on generic web search or unverified model memory. Every answer carries a citation, a timestamp, and a link to the official document — the provenance that makes a legal research platform defensible to auditors and regulators.

About Togo legal coverage

Togo is a civil-law jurisdiction rooted in French legal tradition, with a unitary national legal system. Primary legislation is published in the Journal Officiel de la République Togolaise (JORT), while guidance and regulatory policy sit across ministries and statutory agencies. As a member of OHADA, WAEMU (UEMOA), and ECOWAS, Togo also applies regional harmonized law directly — the OHADA Uniform Acts govern most business law, and monetary policy runs through the BCEAO and the CFA franc. Case law spans the Cour Suprême, the Cour Constitutionnelle, and specialized courts, with OHADA business disputes reaching the Common Court of Justice and Arbitration (CCJA). Legal materials are published in French, the official language.

Togolese law is changing quickly: the 2024 constitution moved the country toward a parliamentary system under a Fifth Republic and created a Senate, while Law No. 2019-014 of 29 October 2019 on the protection of personal data established the IPDCP and is still being implemented — so citations to outdated provisions can simply be wrong. Point-in-time data straight from the source is what keeps a Togo legal research answer correct today.
