Q

Where is Missouri's Sunshine Law — the open-meetings and open-records law — found in the statutes?

A

In Chapter 610 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri, "Governmental Bodies and Records" — the Sunshine Law. Section 610.011, "Liberal construction of law to be public policy," sets the rule that the chapter's provisions favoring open meetings and records are to be liberally construed. The chapter is maintained by the Missouri Revisor of Statutes.

Missouri legal coverage includes primary legislation, court decisions, and Attorney General materials, with statutory history where available.

Legislative History

Section-level effective dates and prior versions from the Revisor of Statutes where available, each tied to its source; a dedicated bill-tracking portal is not yet part of Missouri coverage.

Regulatory Guidance & Enforcement

Missouri Attorney General opinions and reports where available; coverage centers on the statutes and case law rather than a separate administrative-rules (Code of State Regulations) portal.

Case Law

Decisions of the Supreme Court of Missouri and the Missouri Court of Appeals, alongside Attorney General opinions, accessed through CourtListener, where available.

WHY LAWSTRONAUT

Why Lawstronaut for Missouri legal research

Missouri legal information is spread across the Revisor of Statutes, the state's appellate courts, and Attorney General materials. For humans, that means slow research. For AI systems, it's a bigger problem: fragmented source access, inconsistent formats, missing provenance, and weak citation trails.

Lawstronaut turns those sources into one structured legal data layer — source links, metadata, full text, versioning, and API/MCP access. Your product or agent retrieves the legal source directly instead of relying on generic web search or unverified model memory. Every answer carries a citation, a timestamp, and a link to the official document — the provenance that makes a legal research platform defensible to auditors and regulators.

About Missouri legal coverage

Missouri is a U.S. state within a common-law, federal system. Its consolidated statutes are published by the Missouri Revisor of Statutes at revisor.mo.gov as the Revised Statutes of Missouri (RSMo), organized by title, chapter, and section. Appellate case law comes from the Supreme Court of Missouri and the Missouri Court of Appeals (Eastern, Western, and Southern Districts), alongside Missouri Attorney General opinions, accessed through CourtListener. Records are published in English.

Missouri law changes each legislative session — most statutory amendments take effect on August 28 following enactment — and the appellate courts issue opinions throughout the year. Point-in-time data straight from the Revisor and the courts is what keeps a Missouri legal answer correct today — Chapter 610, the Sunshine Law, is a good example of a frequently amended framework.
