About Martinique legal coverage
Martinique is a French overseas department and region (DROM) in the Caribbean, governed under Article 73 of the French Constitution. It is a civil-law jurisdiction in which French national law applies by the principle of legislative identity, subject to limited local adaptations; since 1 January 2016 a single territorial collectivity, the Collectivité Territoriale de Martinique (CTM), exercises the powers formerly split between the department and the region. Primary legislation is published in the Journal officiel de la République française (JORF) and consolidated on Légifrance, while local deliberations and prefectoral acts appear in the recueils des actes administratifs. The judiciary runs through the Cour d'appel de Fort-de-France and the Tribunal administratif de la Martinique, with the Cour de cassation and the Conseil d'État at the apex, and legal materials are published in French.
