About Lebanon legal coverage
Lebanon is a civil-law jurisdiction rooted in French legal tradition, with codes such as the Code of Obligations and Contracts (1932) and a Constitution dating to 23 May 1926, as amended — most significantly by the 1990 constitutional revisions implementing the Taif Agreement. Alongside the secular civil system, matters of personal status (marriage, inheritance, family) are governed by confessional law administered through the religious courts of Lebanon's recognized communities. Primary legislation is published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Lebanon (Al-Jarida al-Rasmiyya); the Lebanese Parliament (Majlis al-Nuwab) enacts laws, while regulatory policy sits with bodies such as Banque du Liban, the Capital Markets Authority, and the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority. Case law spans the Court of Cassation, the Council of State for administrative matters, and the Constitutional Council.
