About Jharkhand legal coverage
Jharkhand is a state in eastern India within India's common-law system. State legislation is enacted by the unicameral Jharkhand Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) and published in the Jharkhand Gazette, alongside statutory rules, government orders, and notifications issued by state departments; Union (central) laws also apply within the state. Case law comes from the Jharkhand High Court at Ranchi and subordinate courts and tribunals. Legal materials are published primarily in Hindi and English.
Jharkhand was carved out of Bihar in 2000 under the Bihar Reorganisation Act, 2000, so many pre-2000 statutes must be read against the new state boundaries and its own subsequent amendments.
