Which Isle of Man statute created the streamlined '2006 Act company' that operates alongside older 1931-Act companies?
The Companies Act 2006, an Act of Tynwald, introduced the simplified '2006 Act company' — a flexible corporate vehicle that operates alongside companies incorporated under the Companies Act 1931. Both regimes are published by the Isle of Man Government and administered through the Companies Registry.

Why Lawstronaut for Manx legal research
Manx legal information is spread across the Isle of Man Government legislation service, Tynwald, government departments, statutory regulators, courts, and publication sources. For humans, that means slow research. For AI systems, it's a bigger problem: fragmented source access, inconsistent formats, missing provenance, and weak citation trails.
Lawstronaut turns those sources into one structured legal data layer — source links, metadata, full text, versioning, and API/MCP access. Your product or agent retrieves the legal source directly instead of relying on generic web search or unverified model memory. Every answer carries a citation, a timestamp, and a link to the official document — the provenance that makes a legal research platform defensible to auditors and regulators.
About Isle of Man legal coverage
The Isle of Man is a self-governing British Crown Dependency with its own common-law legal system, distinct from — though historically influenced by — English law, and is not part of the United Kingdom or the European Union. Primary legislation is made by Tynwald, the island's ancient bicameral parliament (the House of Keys and the Legislative Council), and enacted as Acts of Tynwald once they receive Royal Assent and are promulgated; secondary legislation takes the form of statutory documents and orders. The courts are led by the High Court of Justice of the Isle of Man, with judges known as Deemsters and a Staff of Government Division hearing appeals, and final appeals lie to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. Legislation and official materials are published in English by the Isle of Man Government.
The Island is a major international financial services and e-business centre, and its law is actively maintained: the Companies Act 2006 introduced a streamlined corporate vehicle alongside 1931-Act companies, the Beneficial Ownership Act 2017 and successive AML/CFT codes reflect evolving international standards, and the Data Protection Act 2018 with the GDPR and LED Implementing Regulations 2018 keeps the Island's regime aligned for adequacy — so citations to superseded provisions can simply be wrong. Point-in-time data straight from the source is what keeps an Isle of Man legal research answer correct today.
