Which law created the State of Haryana?
The Punjab Reorganisation Act, 1966 (Act No. 31 of 1966), enacted by the Parliament of India, created the State of Haryana with effect from 1 November 1966 by carving it out of the former State of Punjab, and it also constituted the Union Territory of Chandigarh and provided for a common High Court for Punjab and Haryana. It is published in the Gazette of India and consolidated in the India Code.

Why Lawstronaut for Haryana legal research
Haryana legal information is spread across the Haryana Government Gazette, the Gazette of India, the Haryana Legislative Assembly, government departments, statutory authorities, regulators, and the courts — with competence divided between the State and the Union under India's federal scheme. For humans, that means slow research. For AI systems, it's a bigger problem: fragmented source access, inconsistent formats, missing provenance, and weak citation trails.
Lawstronaut turns those sources into one structured legal data layer — source links, metadata, full text, versioning, and API/MCP access. Your product or agent retrieves the legal source directly instead of relying on generic web search or unverified model memory. Every answer carries a citation, a timestamp, and a link to the official document — the provenance that makes a legal research platform defensible to auditors and regulators.
About Haryana legal coverage
Haryana is a State of the Republic of India, formed on 1 November 1966 under the Punjab Reorganisation Act, 1966, and operating within India's common-law tradition. Its unicameral Haryana Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) legislates on State List and Concurrent List subjects, while Parliament legislates for the Union and on Concurrent subjects. State legislation is published in the Haryana Government Gazette, while Union laws extending to Haryana appear in the Gazette of India and the India Code. Haryana shares the Punjab and Haryana High Court, seated at Chandigarh, with the State of Punjab and the Union Territory of Chandigarh, below the Supreme Court of India; regulators such as HERC, HRERA, the HSPCB, and authorities such as the HSVP issue sector rules. Legal materials are published in Hindi and English.
Haryana law changes quickly across a fast-urbanising, industrial state neighbouring Delhi: reforms in real estate regulation under RERA, land pooling and urban development around Gurugram and Faridabad, excise and GST policy, and labour and employment measures move regularly. The Haryana State Employment of Local Candidates Act, 2020 — which reserved 75% of certain private-sector jobs for local candidates — was struck down by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in November 2023, a reminder that citations to superseded or invalidated provisions can simply be wrong. Point-in-time data straight from the source is what keeps a Haryana legal research answer correct today.
