About Assam legal coverage
Assam is a state within India's federal, common-law system. It has its own legislature — the Assam Legislative Assembly — which enacts State Acts on subjects in the State and Concurrent Lists, published in the Assam Gazette by the Directorate of Printing & Stationery. Central (Union) legislation applies alongside state law, and the Gauhati High Court is the superior court of record for Assam and several other Northeastern states, sitting above the district judiciary and specialized tribunals.
